1. A guidebook to mechanism in Organic Chemistry by Peter Sykes
A classic textbook on mechanistic organic chemistry which is characterised particularly by its clarity. This guidebook is aimed clearly at the needs of the student, with a thorough understanding of, and provision for, the potential conceptual difficulties he or she is likely to encounter.

2. Organic Chemistry, Fifth Edition   by: John McMurry
Widely and consistently praised as the most clearly written book on the market.

3. Organic Chemistry
by: Jonathan Clayden, Nick Greeves, Stuart Warren, Peter Wothers
This book provides with a complete review of all the major organic chemical groups and gives a detailed and thorough presentation of their chemical structure as well as their reactivity. It also deals with a series of organic reactions that are considered as the basic ones in organic chemistry with a good overview of their mechanistic pathways.

4. Schaum's Outline of Organic Chemistry, 3rd Edition
by: George J. Hademenos
Grasping the concepts of this daunting subject is much easier with the clear, concise explanations backed up with hundreds of concrete examples. Students learn how to solve problems step-by-step; they can further hone their skills solving additional problems with answers.

5. Advanced Organic Chemistry. Part A: Structure and Mechanisms, 4th Edition
by: Francis A. Carey
Advanced Organic Chemistry has found wide use as a text providing broad coverage of the structure, reactivity and synthesis of organic compounds. The Fourth Edition provides updated material but continues the essential elements of the previous edition. The material in Part A is organized on the basis of fundamental structural topics such as structure, stereochemistry, conformation and aromaticity and basic mechanistic types, including nucleophilic substitution, addition reactions, carbonyl chemistry, aromatic substitution and free radical reactions. The material in Part B is organized on the basis of reaction type with emphasis on reactions of importance in laboratory synthesis.

Some interview questions...

Useful for Civil service aspirants who sought  chemistry as optional

1. Give an example for compounds in which nickel is in zero oxidation state?
           (Ni-carbonyls.....organometallic compounds show such phenomenon)
2. What is the geometry of tetracarbonyl nickel?
           (tetrahedral-sp3 hybridization)
3. What is Rydberg constant?
(R is 1.097X107  m-1, it is used in atomic spectra, The Rydberg constant represents the       limiting value of the highest  wavenumber any photon that can be emitted from the hydrogen atom, or, alternatively, the wavenumber of the lowest-energy photon capable of ionizing the hydrogen atom from its ground state)
4. Which isotope of uranium is using in nuclear reactors?
(U-235, Dont get confused with U-238, it is the most common isotope of U, which is not fissile )
5. What is ozonolysis?
(The cleavage of -C=C- bonds using ozone, ozone first react with olefine to form an ozonide, 1,3-dipolar addition. which  give the carbonyl compound )
